Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan – Live at WOMAD 1985 Vinyl

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan – Live at WOMAD 1985 Vinyl In July 1985 at the WOMAD Festival on Mersea Island, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan took the stage at midnight and transformed the festival. Sharing a bill with New Order and others, he introduced qawwali to a largely non-Asian audience for the first time. From rolling harmonium and chattering tabla, the music rose slowly into ecstatic Sufi heights. The hypnotic call-and-response built to a fever pitch, raw and visceral in this powerful live recording. This concert began a lasting relationship with Real World Records and Peter Gabriel, shaping Nusrat’s global legacy. Now restored from the original analogue tapes, four standout performances are released for the first time. Featuring a full 21-minute “Allah Hoo Allah Hoo,” this vinyl captures the night Sufi music crossed borders forever.
